Content Warnings

The FineVerse is home to a variety of subject matters which can range from family-friendly and wholesome to very dark and gritty. This means that it hosts both NSFW and SFW content, with the NSFW content being restricted to those 18 and older.

The content warnings listed on a verse are what I tend to expect from those universes. They're not set in stone, and I'm open for discussion of additions or removals in certain circumstances.

The purpose of the FineVerse is to serve more as a writing club than the sort of exclusive environment which typically encompasses an internet RP. In-line with Discord's TOS: the FineVerse accepts members that are at least 14 years old. This means that the typical content restriction for general channels is going to be TV-14. Typically content restrictions are gradual, and have been for decades. For our purposes we only use two ratings to avoid difficult moral decisions: either TV-14 or 18+. If you do not know what is acceptable content for a 14 year old, below are some general guidelines.

What is acceptable for TV-14 audiences:

  • The Mention of Sex - A 14 year old has already been through sex-ed and is allowed access to young-adult novels. The mere mention or reference to sex is fine. They do not need to be treated as if sex does not even exist as a concept - but as will be mentioned in the next section there is obvious restrictions to this. Examples of application include teen gossip that "I heard Jessica and James had sex last night!" and suggestive language. It should be common sense that this suggestive language should not be directed at someone underage, but sometimes may be acceptable merely around them for the sake of the story. Failure to conduct properly around minors will lead to immediate expulsion from the FineVerse, and relevant contact with law enforcement.

  • Strong Language - A 14 year old has access to young adult novels with far worse language than I plan to use in the general audience FineVerse channels. For our purposes, it is fine to swear within reason. This includes a few "fucks" and as many "damns" as you want. There is no numerical limit, just keep it relatively tasteful.

  • Violence - Death and destruction is fine, so long as the details are relatively limited. For example: someone may be decapitated so long as it is not described in vivid detail that could be described as "shocking" or excessively sadistic.

  • Serious Subject Matters - A 14 year old is not blind to the cruel circumstances of the world. They may be exposed to certain serious subject matters within reason, such as war, injustice, and sensitive social subjects. One should be careful not to be overly offensive, but should also not feel the need to make their story only about entirely childish subjects.

  • Be Reasonable - Just because something is technically allowed in TV-14, does not mean you should be excessive with it. For example, you should not talk about sex and swear excessively in every sentence. These freedoms should only be used when necessary to develop a story.

What is NOT acceptable for TV-14 audiences:

  • Explicit Descriptions of Sex - This includes anything which could be described as "pornographic". Explicit description about genitals and sexual acts are strictly forbidden in general audience channels. Basically, anything which goes into describing sex rather than just referencing it. This rule is important because exposing minors to pornographic content is not only immoral, but illegal in most states. We are an artistic group, not an educational one: there is no exceptions. Failure to conduct properly around minors will lead to immediate expulsion from the FineVerse, and relevant contact with law enforcement.

  • Crude Offensive Language - This includes slurs, shocking content, and anything which could be construed as overly offensive or cyberbullying. A minor should never be exposed to racial slurs or told to commit suicide, for example: not even in character.

  • Gore - This is description of violence and death which goes beyond the necessary descriptions: instead being overly detailed such that it could be considered shocking or sadistic. Admittedly, the line between "violence" and "gore" can be blurry at times, so you should use your best discretion. Ask yourself which details are necessary, and which are just to be edgy or sadistic.

  • Extremely Dark Subject Matters - These are subject matters which go beyond merely being "serious", and instead step into being actively dark or offensive. For example: sexual violence is probably too far. This is highly subjective, and will require you to use your best judgement. Ask yourself: Would the mere discussion of this topic seriously offend people? If so, then it's probably best to tone it down. It may be possible for the specific interpretation of a subject to dictate whether it's serious or dark. If you are unsure, feel free to ask me.

  • Be Reasonable - While adults are allowed to write about this kind of content in the FineVerse, keep in mind that this is not a sexting or porn group. This sort of content should serve some sort of narrative purpose. There is no numerical limit to this end, and the amount of adult content may vary based on character and thematic setting, so you will have to use your best judgement.

Accessing 18+ Content:

Is still part of the FineVerse, but to gain access to it you need the NSFW role. These channels have no content restrictions so long as they don't break the law or raise any serious moral concerns. Since these channels take place adjacent to general audience channels, it is important that they are securely contained. These channels are to stay strictly between 18+ members. Failure to conduct properly around minors will lead to immediate expulsion from the FineVerse, and relevant contact with law enforcement.

To gain the NSFW role, you must prove to me that you are over 18. Pretty simple. This can be done in many ways, some more intrusive than others. If you fail to prove you are over 18, then you will be restricted to general audience channels. Some methods are as follows:

  • Send a unique picture or recording of yourself. (Will only work if you are clearly adult, and if the media is clearly unique, meaning not copied from elsewhere.)

  • Join a voice-chat with video and answer some questions.

  • Prove that you own a social media account which is at least 10 years old. (10 because it is extremely unlikely someone has a social media account before they are eight years old, and also an 18 year old hasn't been on social media since they were born.)

  • Provide a photo ID with birth date. (Any additional information may be blurred or blacked-out. This would only be necessary if you didn't look over 18 in the first method.)

  • Provide some other evidence which proves beyond a reasonable doubt you are over 18.

Really, anything other than "just trust me bro".

I am also skilled at analyzing writing styles. If you are very young, it will be extremely obvious to me. I will use this in combination with my judgement and provided evidence to aid in determining someone's age. If I feel you are not old enough, even after given evidence, I reserve the right to reject you access to 18+ channels.
