Background: Once a normal foal diagnosed with schizophrenia, in reality Esmond could hear the souls of the deceased around him. After escaping from the orphanage, he went on a soul-searching journey where he found sympathy in all life, largely in part to constantly feeling all the pain of the deceased around him, from their entire lives. After learning to empathize even with the souls of the damned, he ascended and became Mercy, ruling over Mercy. He claims the souls of every truly virtuous soul for his Heaven-like afterlife (assuming they're not claimed by some other afterlife).
