Background: Emerald was abducted alongside her brother as a foal by slavers. They were separated upon kidnapping, and she never saw him again. She was violated and tortured for many years, her shy, docile personality allowing her to quietly slip away with no more than weak pleas. She was unable to be sold, and when nobody wanted her, she was scheduled for execution.

Security around her was rather loose, since she had never put up a fight before. In the cold night before her death, she had completely dissociated, allowing for a new split personality to manifest in her broken mind, which named itself Emmy. Emmy had learned from observing the slaver's work many violent tendencies, and was delighted to use them vengefully on her victims throughout the night.

The next morning, Emerald found herself waking up covered in blood at the edge of a forest, with no recollection of how she got there. She didn't figure out Emmy existed until a while after that, but regardless roamed with no direction until she was found by Blooming Heart, who took pity on her, and gave her a home.
