Background: Rose was one of many part of the pegasi experiments at Reticent Orphanage, abandoned there as a baby by her mother Blooming heart. The experiments left her infertile, and also incapable of real emotion. A positive side-effect is that she is able to perfectly imitate real emotions, a tool useful in manipulation. 

After taking over the orphanage alongside her childhood friends, she took the name "Reticent", then left to become a successful business pony and politician, eventually rising to be the richest and most powerful pony in Petroint. She started her career in someone's company, manipulating her way to second-in-command before killing the CEO to take his place. 

After discovering she was infertile, her dreams of becoming a mother were crushed, and so she coped by starting a slave ring, as all reasonable people do, and took in young slaves to force to act as her children. Eventually, she found Fine Point and enslaved him. After he refused to call her his mother, he staged a rebellion in Reticent Manor (what she renamed Reticent Orphanage) in poetic fashion, sparing her life in exchange for becoming her second-in-command instead.

Now she practically rules over the pony world as a shadow-dictator, the entire government and military in her pocket. She's never had any interaction with her mother, and doesn't even know who she is.
