Background: As Johnson grew old and brittle, he began needing special attention, unable to take care of himself properly. His advisors pitched many technological alternatives, but Johnson insisted that he didn't trust robots with such tender details.

The solution was a home health aide. He went through many of them, complaining about one thing or another. That is until Kayla came along, and she was perfect. She seemed to genuinely care for his health, while the rest were clearly more interested in the money. She went above and beyond the job description, becoming a companion to Johnson.

Now the two go nearly everywhere together, as she cares for his every need. Despite the complaints of the board and his advisors, Johnson promoted her to secretary, and entrusted her with all of his secrets as well as unrestricted access to all of the company's assets.

Johnson knows that his days are numbered, and the only secret still kept from her is his plan for her to take everything after he dies. Living forever as an AI was an option presented to him, but he declined. The following is an entry from his personal diary.

"Kayla's certainly not a genius, not by any stretch of the imagination. However, she has the biggest heart I've seen in humanity. Following the most recent studies of electromatter, and even that boy Malik, I've reached a conclusion. Electromatter is alive, and it is emotional. It has not resisted my attempts at controlling it because I am not smart enough, but because I am not empathetic enough.

I believe now that if anyone is to unlock the true potential of electromatter, it is not me, but it is her."
